The 3rd Phase Project


Incheon Airport’s 3 Phase Construction Project aims to answer to the steadily increasing airline demand of metropolitan areas and reinforce hub competitiveness with neighboring airlines. The currently operated passenger terminal and apron are expected to reach max capacity by sometime around 2017. Accordingly, a total of 5 trillion KRW will be invested from 2009 to 2017 to construct airport infrastructure such as the second passenger terminal, passenger/cargo apron and access/connecting transportation facilities. The completion of the 3 Phase Construction Project will allow Incheon International Airport to support over 72 million passengers and is expected to be a critical milestone in Incheon International Airport’s foray into becoming an airline hub.

Integral system which can share information among company, supervision and contractor is established to control systematic and transparent project management. In addition, advanced project management is executed with process/construction cost integral control and BIM(3-dimensional design review system) which is introduced for the first time in domestic airport construction project. Furthermore, Expert pool which consists of Phase 1 & 2 experienced engineers and experts is established to reflect accumulated experience and know-how to the 3rd Phase Construction Project.

The 3rd phase construction is truly meaningful in that Incheon Airport joins the ranks of large-sized airports, with processing capacity of 50m int'l pax. Larger airports tend to have connection problems due to the distribution of terminals. In order to solve this problem, the transportation system will be placed in one building, to improve the ease of transfer by transfer cluster, and to simplify the moving system.
