Our Vision - Sustainable Cargo Hub Airport
The aviation industry contributes about 3% of total global greenhouse gases (GHG) in the world. In particular, as the GHG from flights are usually emitted at high altitudes and are therefore unable to be absorbed by trees and plants, nature’s carbon “scrubbers”. For this reason, the normalized figure for the aviation industry emissions may amount to nearly 9% of the entire GHG effect, and nearly 30% of the GHG from the aviation industry is generated by the air cargo industry. Therefore, the most urgent task to become a sustainable cargo hub airport is the effort to restrict GHG emissions.
Plants requiring declaration
Incheon Airport initiated the motto of green growth airport in the logistics area for the first time in the world and launched the Green Cargo Hub Project in 2009, and has developed the lightweight ULD, biodegradable Cargo Cover, with airlines and forwarding companies. As a result, it can achieve a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 32,000 tons in the air cargo area in 2010. Through the promotion of green products at Incheon Airport, we have gained over 100,000 recognition pieces from airports around the world.
