The rankings are based on 250,000 questionnaires that were administered by the ACI last year, asking
passengers to rate the service quality of 34 airport service factors - 27 of which are related to facilities and
operations while 7 are service-related.
The award ceremony takes place at the 5 ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Assembly, Conference and Exhibition
that is held in Hainan, China on May 13.
Receiving an outstanding score of 4.99 points with 5 denoting a perfect score, Incheon International Airport
garnered the top spot with the highest points ever awarded in the survey's history. Another achievement was
its fifth consecutive first place finish between 2005 and 2009, making it the longest winning streak ever. This
will burnish the reputation of the airport as well as boost the standings of Korea on the international stage.
ACI is an international association of the world’s airports, with 1,700 airports from 181 countries around the
world enrolled as members. This survey is an important measure to rate a country’s level of capabilities and
services, since each international airport in each country usually represents the best collection of services
and facilities.

Incheon International Airport successfully completed the second phase of its construction project by building
a new concourse and adding 3rd runway in 2008. Meanwhile, a faster and simpler customs procedure is now
in operation with self check-in and automated immigration clearance system thanks to “Ubiquitous”
environment utilizing the most advanced IT technology. Culture and arts performances along with excellent
transfer service amenities and other commercial facilities all blend together to offer new and better services to
once again stay competitive against the best airports in the world.
Furthermore, IIAC is pushing aggressively overseas and signed an agreement to be a consulting partner to
Iraq's Irbil International Airport on February 2009 in a contract that is worth US$31.5 million. In December of the
same year, IIAC won a Master Plan contract with Russia's Khabarovsk Novy Airport.
Having been named the world's best airport for five consecutive years by the ACI, it is likely that IIAC will win
more overseas business. Meanwhile, IIAC will take the next step in becoming a truly global airport and use its sterling brand as a springboard to win more lucrative deals. |
