IIAC Attempts to Enhance Cooperative Ties with Residents of Noise-Impacted Area

IIAC Invites Yongyu-dong Residents to an Incheon Airport Tour Event

In a bid to enhance cooperation ties with the residents of noise impact areas near Incheon Airport, the IIAC invited representatives of Yongyu-dong, Chung-gu, Incheon City, and officials of the Yongyu-dong community center to an Incheon Airport tour event on August 26th.

15 leaders from Yongyu-dong were invited to the tour around the apron area control tower, the airport firefighting squad building, and the Phase 3 construction project promotion hall and were briefed on the operating status of Incheon Airport.

“The invitational event was intended to seek the understanding of the local community in connection with the noise created by airplanes in Incheon Airport and strengthen cooperation ties with them,“ said an IIAC official, adding, “We plan to communicate with the residents of noise sensitive areas more often and drastically increase the noise reduction program budget next year to fund a variety of initiatives to support the local community.”

As per applicable provisions of the Airport Noise Prevention Act, the IIAC spent a total of 2.8 billion won for five years from 2011 on programs designed to support the residents of noise impact areas near Incheon Airport (Bukdo-myon, Ongjin-gun, and a part of Yongyu Island, Chung-gu, Incheon City). Noise-proofing facilities and air conditioners were installed for noise-impacted houses; a sports park as well as access road to fishing waters was constructed for joint use by the local residents. Student scholarships, funeral service expenses, and local community events are also funded as a part of the noise-reduction initiative.
