Establishment of Infrastructure for Perishable Goods
through AIRSIDE Facility Operations and Certification
Initiation of Perishable Goods Facilities to Meet Rising Demand
In September 2021, in response to an annual growth rate of approximately 20% in perishable goods demand, Incheon International Airport became the first in Asia to inaugurate an AIRSIDE (aircraft operation area) perishable goods handling facility known as the Cool Cargo Center. The strategic initiative has effectively minimized transit times while maximizing the preservation of product freshness.
With the introduction of the Cool Cargo Center, Incheon International Airport is now better positioned to adapt to the changing nuances of air cargo trends. Furthermore, it provides a strong foundation for the safe processing of temperature-sensitive items, including pharmaceuticals. This effort cements Incheon International Airport’s status as a pivotal cold chain hub. Beyond pharmaceuticals, the facility is set to handle a diverse range of perishable goods, from delicate foods to plants. Future plans include the establishment of a terminal exclusively dedicated to cold chain cargo.
